Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October pt II

Tuesday
12May2009

On May 13th, Randy from MusicInterviewsNow had a chance to catch up with Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October once again...this time to see how the tour has evolved, and also to answer your questions!

*The audio quality was very poor, so this format is the easiest way to present this material to you all. Thanks for the support!

How has the tour been?

Its going as wonderfully as it could possibly go. People have been so supportive and gracious to show up when the economy hasn’t been so great, and I thank them for that.

The last time we talked, we were on time constraints. I have some questions from your fans that they want you to answer...

I’d love to!

How does it feel when you realize the amount of lives you have positively impacted, and in many ways saved, with your music?
ps-Thank you for your honesty Justin
Samantha, from Canada

Wow! Did she say that? I didn’t realize it was like that...that was sweet of her...tell her oh my God! I can’t believe anyone would say anything like that. Thanks for saving my life! That’s my answer....

Do you still feel the same energy and excitement when you play a show now as you did when you first started playing shows?

-Jessica, from Missouri

I used to try to be that dramatic guy. Now I don’t give a f***.  I go out there and throw my body around and let the music take its course. I enjoy it 10 X’s more now...especially now that I’m not hung over on stage.

I've wondered about the part in sound of pulling heaven down
"I wear my suit and tie
We're eye to eye and toasting to
The way you put that smile upon my face, yeah"
Is that why Justin wore suits for the foiled campaign?
Thanks! Cookie27

The Foiled album was like a funeral to me...a grieving process. I had to wear suits so people would take me seriously. I didn’t want to be that guy in punk t-shirts singing sad songs. So I put my suit on and went to the funeral every night.

I was wondering if Justin is still planning to publish a book of lyrics and artwork.

-Davidmartini

Yes...the book is already done. I am such a picky asshole, so much that I cross the t’s and dot the I’s. It has to be perfect. It was me that was holding it up. It has to be beautifully done, and I am proud of it. It will be published in about two weeks.

Hello Justin,
I was wondering what is going to happen with the other exclusive tracks that were recorded for Approaching Normal, 78666, Voice of a Friend, No One's Listening
Thanks,
Stephen from Missouri

On our website we have all of these items on a vinyl. So right now it’s available on vinyl on the website and at the shows. I would get the vinyl because there is a smaller, special version of my book on there.

When you write, do you prefer hand writing or typing your ideas/lyrics out? Why? Do you keep writing/artwork that you don't like or that you're unhappy with to revisit later? RACHAEL

I have been known to write how ever I can get it down. There have been times where I’ve had nothing available, and I had to repeat my ideas over and over in my head. (Justin starts singing) I wrote the song called “The Answers” this way...I repeated the lyrics over and over until I wrote them down.

I was wondering what the MR stands for on the burning cash in “Dirt Room?”

Garick

Here is another plug for the book...It’s in the book! To make a long story short, I had a former associate that sued me...but you got to check out the book.

When are you guys going to come over to the UK again? Yvonne Jackson

Check out our webpage...it’s all on there...we will be there a lot!
